imeem Makes Android Sing

imeem launches its first mobile service for T-Mobile’s G1 with Google, the world’s first Android-powered mobile phone, bringing social music to people on the go

SAN FRANCISCO — October 21, 2008 – imeem (www.imeem.com), the leading social music site, today announced the launch of imeem for Android, a new social music application that brings free streaming music and personalized radio to T-Mobile’s G1 with Google, the world’s first Android-powered mobile phone. With imeem for Android, imeem is launching the first cross-platform social music experience. The application will be available as a free download through the phone via the Android Market (http://www.android.com/market.html).

imeem for Android helps people easily discover music that matches their tastes. The application enables users to create custom Internet radio stations by searching for specific artists, discover new music through personalized recommendations and listen to the most popular artists in the imeem community. The application also gives people the ability to purchase DRM-free downloads by linking to the Amazon MP3 application on Android.

imeem for Android comes with a number of continually updating stations influenced by people’s individual listening habits and tastes and those of the larger imeem community. These stations feature:

  • The most popular songs and emerging artists across the imeem service
  • Personalized recommendations based on what a user and their friends listen to on imeem and imeem for Android
  • Dynamically created “favorite” stations that are based on artists people are connected to on imeem.com

imeem for Android seamlessly integrates with features on imeem.com. The music people listen to on the go will influence the recommendations they receive on imeem.com, and vice versa.

If users discover new artists while listening to imeem for Android, they can “favorite” those artists and automatically become fans on imeem. Similarly, if they become a fan of an artist on imeem, a station for that artist will automatically be available to them through imeem for Android. A user can also find a record of their mobile listening history by logging in to their imeem.com account, where all those songs are available for free on-demand streaming.

“Our vision is to let people enjoy imeem anywhere on the Web and beyond,” said Dalton Caldwell, imeem’s founder and chief executive officer. “Today, we’re taking an important step towards that goal by delivering one of our community’s most requested features: the ability to enjoy imeem on the go. We’re looking forward to introducing more features and mobile applications in the coming months.”

The T-Mobile G1 is the world’s first Android-powered mobile phone. The T-Mobile G1 combines full touch-screen functionality and a QWERTY keyboard with a mobile Web experience. With a fun and intuitive user interface and one-touch access to Google Search, the T-Mobile G1 is also the first phone to provide access to Android Market, where customers can find and download unique applications to expand and personalize their phone to fit their lifestyle.
